Viking netters top Dowagiac

Host Niles won three out of four doubles flights to defeat Dowagiac Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference tennis match, 5-3.

The Chieftains and the Vikings split the singles flights with Dowagiac winning at No. 2 and No. 3 singles with Shannon Keene and Kristina Bunn.

The Vikings picked up wins at No. 1 singles with Anna Flahaven and No. 4 singles with Haley Linville.

Dowagiac’s lone victory in doubles came at No. 1 with Megan Hornburg and Jessica Martin defeating Taylor Glick and Haley Davis in a closely contested match, 7-6 and 6-4.

Niles’ Nichole Sly and Paxton Schaller, Michelle Briand and Anna Benjamin, along with Liz Rocha and Allie Fuller were winners at second, third and fourth doubles.

Dowagiac will compete in the Division 4 regional at Leeper Park in South Bend, Ind. today, while Niles will travel to Vicksburg for the Division 2 regional on Friday.
