CASSOPOLIS — An Edwardsburg teen involved in a string of home invasions in the area last year is headed to prison.

Cody Price, 17, was sentenced Friday in Cass County Circuit Court to three to 15 years in prison with credit for 130 days already served.

He was also ordered to pay $3,638 restitution with his co-defendants.

Price pleaded guilty in April to home invasion, conspiracy to commit home invasion and larceny in a building. The charges stemmed from a series of break-ins in the Eagle Lake area of Edwardsburg from September through December 2010.

His co-defendant Timothy Baker was sentenced to three to five years in prison in March, while co-defendant Thomas Blunier has reached a plea agreement and will face his sentencing in the coming weeks.

Barry County Prosecutor Thomas Evans served as the special prosecutor for the case, since Baker’s co-defendant, Blunier, is the son of Cass County public defender Dale Blunier.

Evans pointed out that Price has had “some difficulties” in his childhood and has a mental illness but said that it’s not an excuse for the crimes.

“Punishment is warranted in this case,” he said. “There are victims out there … These folks will be hurting for a long time, maybe forever.”

Defense attorney Gregory Feldman said his client was acting out from a difficult upbringing that included “bad experiences” in a foster home.

For his part, Price was apologetic.

“I mentally and emotionally damaged a lot of people,” he said.

Circuit Judge Michael Dodge said the charges to which Price pleaded guilty were “just the tip of the iceberg” in a series of home invasions and robberies.

“They were so numerous, you couldn’t recall the number,” Dodge said. “When you were busting into homes and stealing items, you had plenty of time to think and reflect on it but you continued to do it.”
