EDWARDSBURG — The Edwardsburg Eddies stayed a half game behind Lakeland Conference leading Coloma Tuesday afternoon following its sweep of visiting Bridgman.
The Eddies (14-5, 9-1 Lakeland) edged the Bees 2-0 in the opening game, scoring a pair of single runs in the third and fourth innings.
Edwardsburg scored twice in the opening frame of the nightcap and went on to win 6-1.
Andrea LaPlace, who tossed a four-hit shut out in the opening game, scored what turned out to be the winning run in the bottom half of the third after doubling with one out and moving to third on a groundout by Tanner Kiessel.
LaPlace would score on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
The Eddies tacked on a run in the fourth when Teryn Williams reached base on an error to open the inning, moved to second on a single by Victoria Hurst and came around to score on a single by Maddi Holmes.
Both teams had just four hits in the contest and no one player had more than one hit.
LaPlace struck out seven, allowed four hits and did not walk a batter in earning the victory.
Edwardsburg was a little more offensive in the nightcap, finishing with 10 hits.
Williams, Brittany Hurst, Kaley Frank and LaPlace all had a pair of hits. Williams and Frank both doubled.
