Dowagiac residents recognized for SMC service

Southwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees recognized two sisters for their long-time service to the college.

Deb Gunyan-LaRock was presented a 20-year service pin, while her sister, Penny Gunyan, was given her 15-year pin.

Board Chairman Dr. Fred Mathews presented Gunyan and Gunyan-LaRock their pins.

Both are Dowagiac residents.

Deb Gunyan-LaRock began her career at SMC as a part-time secretary to the vice president of community and technical services.

Throughout her years at the college, Gunyan-LaRock has held various positions such as secretary to the director of the Upward Bound program, bookstore assistant and her current job as administrative assistant to the dean of students and academic support.

She holds a bachelor of science degree from Bethel College and an associate in general studies degree from SMC.

Prior to coming to the college, Gunyan-LaRock held various positions for Dowagiac Union Schools.

Penny Gunyan joined the college as a part-time secretary at the Niles Area Campus (NAC). She received full-time status and is currently the administrative assistant to the dean of Workforce Education and Business Solutions (WEBS) at the Niles campus.

She holds an associate in business administration from Ferris State University.

Prior to coming to SMC, Gunyan held the position of human resources administrative assistant at Iverness Castings Group (ICG) in Dowagiac.
