SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Lakeland Conference Tennis Tournament at Leeper Park in South Bend, Ind. was halted by a thunderstorm that began rolling through the area around 4 p.m.

There are still 11 matches that either need to be completed or started. Those matches will resume on today at 4 p.m. at Edwardsburg High School.

Brandywine’s No. 1 doubles team of Lauren Leonard (left) and Kelsey Prestly captured the league championship before play was stopped. Leonard is a four-time conference champion.

Leonard and Prestly defeated Jamie Richardson and Alyssa Nasco of Edwardsburg in the finals, 6-2 and 6-3.

Berrien Springs freshman Arien Kissinger defeated Alex Watts of Edwardsburg to win the No. 1 singles championship, 6-2 and 6-3, while Buchanan’s Ashley Devereaux dfeated Connie Kutschbach of Edwardsburg fro the No. 3 singles crown, 6-3 and 6-3.

Edwardsburg’s Tory Treat won the No. 4 singles championship with a 6-3 and 6-4 victory over Buchanan’s Ally Cornwell.

The Eddies, the defending conference champions, came into Firday’s tournament with a 5-0-1 record.

Brandywine was 4-0-2, Buchanan 4-1-1, Berrien Springs 3-3, Coloma 2-4, Bridgman 1-4 and Cassopolis 0-6.
