The Vikings from Ring Lardner closed out their track season Wednesday night in winning fashion up at Allegan.

The Vikings competed against nine other schools in a coed relay format. They won the meet with 106 points, their next closest rival was Vicksburg with 63.

This was the 13th year in which the team participated in this meet. Ring Lardner has taken first in Allegan 11 times and second place twice.

The meet started with a event known as the 6,400-meter relay. The race itself didn’t go as well as hoped for the Vikings. The mile had been the team’s weakest link the entire season and Wednesday was no exception. Four new athletes had “volunteered” to run the mile. The relay team took fourth place thanks to the efforts of Sean Craig and Chelsea Best, who worked the team from last to fourth place earning valuable points.

The hurdlers jump started team with a second place finish just behind first place Vicksburg 37.66 to 37.48, with Adam Langmeyer, Joe Avance, Meagan Kelley and Maya Brookins having the honors. Avance then jumped into the 800 relay along with Josh Buckingham, Deja Jones and Asiah Brookins and took the first first place of the meet and the young Vikings never looked back.

The sprint medley with each runner going a different distance finished in second place with Kobie DosSantos, Kylee Myer, Ethan Stanfill and Jazmin Brann finishing eight seconds behind Plainwell. The 3,200-meter relay had each runner running 800 meters and claimed first by seven seconds. Antonia Palmer lead off, with Jalen Alexander, Best and David Kennedy keeping the pack behind. Langmeyer then led his 1,600 relay team of Craig, Jones and Keilah DosSantos to victory by five seconds over Gull Lake.

Next, the hurdle team of Kelley, Kayla Conway, Quintin Smith and Logan Ortiz-Leonard took a third place only one second behind the winner Vicksburg.

The final three races of the night were next, but before they could be run the results of the field events were tabulated and as the scores were being read over the loudspeaker the Vikings had a 40 point lead.

The long jump with Kennedy, the DosSanto twins and Maya Brookins claimed a first by three feet, 56-4 to 53-5. Kennedy also helped the shot put team of Alex Bata, Kortney Custard and Olivea Lennox, finishing in third by throwing 41 feet himself. The best performance was by the high jumpers Stanfill, Myer, Best and Alexander who took second with a total of 18-0.10 to 18-0.

The 400 relay was won by Avance, Buckingham and the Brookin sisters by two seconds over a tough Plainwell team. Buckingham, Asiah and the DosSantos twins also claimed a first in the 800 medley relay with each runner going a different distance finishing by seven seconds over the next opponent.

The distance medley relay came in with a third place finish with Langmeyer Jones, Craig and Myer participating.

The Vikings claimed victory as a coed team at both the D’Agostino Relays of St. Joe and at Allegan. The boys finished first in the two other relay meets they participated in — Edwardsburg and Bender Relays. Both teams competed against 37 opponents combined in all meets. The boys were 34-3, while the girls were 30-7 against them.
