Former Dowagiac coach Dean Hagen will be honored on Sunday at Comerica Park in Detroit along with the other Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame members.

Hagen, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993, said that he was honored to be part of the ceremonies in which a permanent wall hanging will be unveiled before the Detroit Tigers’ games with the Kansas City Royals.

“To have you name hanging in Tiger Stadium is quite an honor,” Hagen said. “I never dreamed that any of this would happen. I just thought I would coach some baseball for a while.”

Hagen coached 21 years of baseball and never had a losing season. He had eight players drafted into the minor leagues and had 14 players who received full or partial college scholarships.

Besides being inducted into the Michigan Hall of Fame in 1993, he was named National High School Baseball Regional Coach of the Year for seven states. He was also nominated for the National Coach of the Year along with seven other coaches from throughout the United States.

Hagen is also a member of the Black Hills State College Coaches Hall of Fame.
