Four first half goals were more than enough for the visiting Battle Creek Harper Creek soccer team in a Big 16 Conference crossover match Wednesday night.

Harper Creek grabbed a 4-0 halftime lead and never looked back, finishing with a 6-0 victory.

The visitors from Battle Creek were efficient with their shots as they scored on 50 percent of them. Harper Creek outshot Niles 12-2 in the contest.

Elizabeth Miller opened the scoring just two minutes into the match. It would take nearly another 19 minutes before Harper Creek would get on the board again.

Lisa Willbur made it 2-0 with an assist from Courtney Hughes in the 21st minute.

Back-to-back goals just three minutes apart turned the match solidly in favor of the visitors.

Aubree Cable scored in the 34th minute and Kirst Kiessling completed the first half scoring with a tally in the 37th minute.

Harper Creek scored its final two goals in the first six minutes of the second half. Hughes found the back of the net in the 43rd minute and Schae Brandt scored in the 49th minute.

The final score could have been worse, but Niles keeper Sarah Smith was solid in between the pipes in the final 40 minutes. Smith finished with six saves.

“She did a pretty decent job,” Niles coach Jo Schau said of Smith. “We are still having a lot of communication issues on defense. We are still having a lot of breakdowns and we lack consistency.”
