With the rise in prices for scrap metal, thefts are also increasing. Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. said over the past few months, farmers are again seeing thefts of wire from irrigation systems and many citizens are reporting thefts of other metal items that can be turned into recycling centers for cash.
The sheriff’s office is asking citizens to call dispatch at 445-1560 should they see anyone acting suspiciously in their neighborhoods.
The Cass Area Farmers group is also offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of persons involved in the theft of metal from farms. This reward is administered by the sheriff’s office.
