Wanda Berniece Darling McIlroy, 73, of Westfield Drive, Niles, died at 3:03 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Hospice House in South Bend following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 22, 1937 in Manchester, Tenn. to Elmer Frizzell and Gertie (Ensey) Frizzell. She graduated from Niles High School and lived here most of her life.
Wanda was a waitress at Prime Table Restaurant and Angelo’s Restaurant in South Bend. She enjoyed shopping, especially in Shipshewana, and fine dining. She enjoying watching Food Network and QVC. She loved her daughter.
Wanda married Carlos “Red” McIlroy; he preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Darling of Niles; sister, Josephine Smith of Vandalia; special niece, Diane (Herb) McGraw of Niles; several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd Frizzell, Leonard Frizzell, Royce Frizzell and Everett Frizzell; and sister, Ione Churchich.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 8 at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles with David Thompson of Church of Christ in Niles officiating.
Friends may call beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
