Dowagiac JV baseball team splits with Bears

The Dowagiac JV baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with St. Joseph on Monday.

The Chieftains lost the first game to the Bears 15-0, but bounced back to nip St. Joe 6-5 in the nightcap.

Davion Highsmith was the winning pitcher in the second game.

Derrick Stark had a pair of hits for the Chieftains, who also got singles from Nate Lindsey, Brody Froehlich, Austin Broda and Zach Williams. Broda, Williams and Phillip Kocsis all drove in runs.

Dowagiac was swept by Vicksburg in a Wolverine Conference twinbill on April 29.

The Chieftains fell to the Bulldogs 11-1 in the first game and 18-7 in the second game.

Froehlich and Broda each had hits for Dowagiac in the opener. Highsmith singled and doubled for the Chieftains, who also got two hits from Lindsey and Broda. Broda finished with two RBIs.
