RICHLAND — The noose is getting tighter around the necks of the rest of the Wolverine Conference golf teams.
Dowagiac has completely dominated the league this season, winning all but one of the jamborees held so far.
As a result, the Chieftains now lead the conference standings by eight points. Dowagiac shot 160 on Wednesday at Stonehedge in Richland to edge host Gull Lake by a stroke.
The Blue Devils shot 161, but still lost another point in the championship chase to the Chieftains.
Defending league champion Vicksburg was third with a 168, while Plainwell and Otsego rounded out the top five with 173 and 174 respectively. Paw Paw was sixth with a 183, South Haven seventh with a 195, Three Rivers eighth with a 196, Comstock ninth with a 197 and Allegan 10th with a 202.
Plainwell’s Sean Carter and Gull Lake’s Luke Tindall shared medalist honors as the shot identical 37s.
Dowagiac placed four of its five players in the top 10 on Wednesday and all five players are in the overall top 10 this year.
Chris Craft led the Chieftains once again as he shot 38. Cody Fairleigh finished with a 40. Jordan Juday and Kyle Ward each shot 41.
There are just three jamborees remaining before the conference tournament on May 19. Dowagiac will head to South Haven on Monday before finishing up at Plainwell (May 10) and Three Rivers (May 13).
