After having two meets cancelled because of bad weather it was good enough to run track on Wednesday evening for Niles Ring Lardner.

The Vikings hosted Buchanan and Edwardsburg. In a surprising finish the boys’ team from Ring Lardner tied Edwardsburg 64-64 with Buchanan coming in third with 14 points.

Larry Lamb started the scoring by finishing thirrd in the two-mile run. Next Joe Avance won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9:28 with Adam Langmeyer right behind him at 9:59 seconds. The 800-meter relay team with Avance, Ethan Stanfill, Jalen Alexander and Kobie DoSantos then won by a 12-second margin over second place Buchanan.

One of the best races of the evening was won by Sean Craig, who went back and forth with Lutz of Edwardsburg and pulled ahead at the wire for the victory.

Logan Ortiz-Leonard won the 200-meter hurdle race and David Kennedy won the long jump. The shot put event was swept by the young Vikings with Alex Bata leading the way with a throw of 36-foot-9 and Kennedy right behind him by only three inches. Brandon Rasler finished in third place.

Ben Evans and Elijah Thompson took important third place finishes for the boys while Quinten Smith,  Alexander and Josh Buckingham took seconds in the hurdles, high jump and 70-meter run respectively. Rivir Britton, Adam Cole and John Lewis had some great efforts in their races also.

The Lady Vikings fell to the Eddies for the second time this season losing 69-57. Buchanan was third with 14 points.

Monica Harrison took a third in the two-mile run and Megan Kelley finished second in the 55 hurdles.

The 800 relay team of Antonia Palmer, Kylee Myer, Jay Palmer and Deja Jones then took a first place with Chelsea Best and Morgan Richer finishing second and third in the 800-meter run.

Speedsters Maya Brookins won the 100-meters and Keilah DosSantos won the 400-meters by four seconds. Teammate Jaiden Rolan finished in second.

The girls were held scoreless in two events until Jones took a second in the 200-meters. The 3,200-meter relay team of Richer, Myer, Best and Beth Sikkink took another first, along with the 400-meter relay team of Jones, Brookins, Palmer and DosSantos.

Myer also won the high jump with Best finishing third. The shot put was swept by the Vikings with Courtney Custard in first, Rolan in second and Olivia Lennox in third place.

If the weather cooperates the team has three meets next week culminating with the Don Bender Memorial Relays at home Friday afternoon with at least 12 teams attending.
