Dowagiac track teams fourth at Paw Paw

PAW PAW — The Dowagiac boys and girls track teams each finished fourth at the Paw Paw Invitational on Saturday.
Vicksburg captured the girls’ title with 140 points. Mattawan was second with 137 points, while Dowagiac amassed 59 points.
Senior Kaisha Martin won three events and set a new meet record in the long jump. Martin’s jump measured 16-3.25 to set the meet mark. She ran 12.8 in the 100-meters and ran 27.33 in the 200-meters.
Regina Kennedy picked up a pair of second place finishes in the discus and the shot put. In the discus she threw 90-7, while in the shot put she had a throw of 30-7.
Hazel Kennedy was third in the shot put (29-7) and Breneesha Jones was fifth (28-5).
Dowagiac’s 800-meter relay team of Jacoya Brookins, DeVaughna Huff, Andrea Wade and Alex Carey finished fourth with a time of 2:06. Brookins was also sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (20.31).
Vicksburg won the boys’ meet with a team total of 166. Host Paw Paw was second with 128 points. The Chieftains finished with 51 points.
Dowagiac did not earn a single first place, but recorded a trio of second place finishes.
Chris Gantt earned two of those finishes in the 1,600- and 800-meters. Gantt ran 4:44.0 in the 1,600 and 2:05.8 in the 800. Colin Tidey finished second in the pole vault after clearning 11-feet.
Austin Adams was third in the 100-meters with a time of 11.43, while Sam Courtney was third in the shot put with a toss of 39-4. Brett Lesniak took fourth in the same event with a throw of 39-feet.
The Chieftains also took fourth in both the 800- and 400-meter relays, as well as fifth in the 1,600-meter relay.
The 800-meter relay team of Mike Bennett, Tidey, Lucas Petro and Adams posted a time of 1:39.3. Bennett, Dontrell Tucker, Tidey and Adams were clocked at 45.87 in the 400-meters.
Tidey, Justin Minor, Julian Marshall and Gantt ran 3:55.0 in the 1,600-meters.
Bennett finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 18-6.
“All in all we had some very good performances on a very tough weather day,” Dowagiac coach Ken Jordan said.
Dowagiac will host Gull Lake in a Wolverine Conference meet on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
