Robert Jackson, 86

Robert L. Jackson, 86, of Clarksville, Tenn., passed away April 12, 2011 in the veterans’ hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

Bob was born in Crystal Falls, Mich. in 1925 to Margaret (Liberty) Jackson and Roy Jackson.

Mr. Jackson was a World War II veteran and was a prisoner of war. For his courage and bravery he was awarded the Bronze Star, Prisoner of War medal and was Knighted by the Republic of France. His war exploits were written in several books, including one he wrote himself: “Kriegie.” It was published in 1994. After his service to his country he worked as a landscape designer and then went into retailing, working for J.C. Penney and 30 years at Levine’s in LaPorte, Ind. Bob retired in 1988 and traveled the U.S. for many years, and then taught English to Spanish-speaking adults at the Speer Memorial Library of Mission, Texas. He was a member of St. Mark Church, Niles.

Bob Jackson will be missed by friends and family for his sense of humor, passion for people and generous spirit.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene, Clarksville, Tenn.; two sons, Randy of Georgia and Jeffrey of Kentucky; two daughters, Lori Rauli of Tennessee and Lois Fedeli of Michigan; one brother, Paul of Vermont; and his stepdaughter, Gynell of Tennessee.
