Darius Jevon Nickens, 28, of Dowagiac, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital.
Darius’s life began on Aug. 24, 1982, in Berrien Center, the son of Robert and Shirley (Jackson) Nickens.
Darius is a graduate of Dowagiac Union High School, where he participated in basketball, soccer, baseball and speech club.
He enjoyed woodworking and was an honor roll student.
The greatest comfort for his family was that he was a believer in the Lord, Jesus Christ.
His loving family includes: his parents, Robert and Shirley Nickens of Dowagiac; his children, Dominique Nickens and Darius Nickens II, both of Niles, and Darrion Nickens of Dowagiac; brothers and sisters, Robert Nickens IV of Dowagiac, Denice (Jerry) Redmond of Elkhart, Ind., Christine Nickens of Kalamazoo and Jamaal (Chantel) Nickens of Dowagiac; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
Darius’s family will receive friends on Thursday, April 28, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Dowagiac First United Methodist Church, where his home going service will be held at 1 p.m. led by Pastors Tracy Roddy, Bryan Bacon and Tonnie Blackamore.
He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac, following the services. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the family in care of Robert Nickens.
