Driver restrictions a waste

Dear editor:

I am the father of a 16-year-old driver, soon to be 17. I received in the mail a letter dated March 14, 2011 stating the following: “A GDL driver shall not operate a vehicle from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and have no more than one passenger in the car under 21 unless they are an immediate family member effective March 30, 2011.”
Please tell me that our Michigan politicians have more important things to address than this, like reducing our deficit, fixing our schools and eliminating wasteful spending.
What has happened to common sense? It is obviously not required to be part of our government.
If any driver that is under 18 is not safe enough to drive between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. or have more than one person in the car, then they should not be on the road at all. There must be magic in the air for the other times to ensure the safety of all drivers on the road.
Let’s spend more taxpayer dollars in policing this action. Money well spent — not.

Sincerely,

Tom Spain
