CASSOPOLIS — Visiting Edwardsburg kicked off its season with a 5-0 Lakeland Conference victory over Edwardsburg Wednesday afternoon.

The Eddies (1-0) blanked the Rangers (0-1) in four out of the five flights that were contested.

The best match of the day came at No. 1 singles where Alex Watts defeated Savannah Sullivan in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3.

The Eddies are back in action today as they host Niles in a non-conference match. The Rangers return to the courts on April 13 when they travel to Brandywine for another Lakeland Conference match.

BUCHANAN — The Buchanan Bucks opened their season by blanking visiting Coloma Wednesday afternoon in a Lakeland Conference match, 8-0.

The Bucks dropped just 11 games in sweeping the doubles flights.

The best match of the day as at No. 4 singles where Buchanan’s Audrey Funk defeated Isabelle Kniebs in straight sets 7-5 and 6-2.

Buchanan will be returning to action on April 13 when they host defending Lakeland Conference champion Edwardsburg.
