The Brandywine tennis team started off its Lakeland Conference season on a strong note Tuesday defeating Bridgman 8-0 at Plym Park.
The Bobcats then completed a sweep of their doubleheader with a 7-1 victory over Eau Claire in a non-conference match. Pro set scoring was used in the second match of the day.
Alyssa Robbins, Jessica Blank, Taylor Mattiford and Lauren Hopper all picked up singles victories against Bridgman, with three of the four flights being decided in straight sets.
Blank needed three sets to defeat Molly Meyer 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4.
Lauren Leonard and Kelsey Prestly blanked Adrianna Worden and Noelle Molovitis at No. 1 doubles, while Jessy Cooper and Cassie Kelly blanked Lindsey Koch and Rachel King at No. 4 doubles.
Ashley DeJonge and Lena Miles won in straight sets at No. 2 doubles, with Rachel Gipson and Cassidy Purucker winning in straight sets at No. 3 doubles.
“It was a great way for us to open up conference play. Jessica Blank continues to play well as do Ashley and Lena at No. 2 doubles,” said Brandywine coach Joe Marazita of the doubleheader sweep.
Against Eau Claire, Robbins, Blank and Mattiford were all winners in singles competition, dropping just five games between them.
Eau Claire earned its lone victory at No. 4 singles.
Leonard and Prestly blanked Brittany and Cailin Fitz, 8-0.
DeJonge and Miles, Gibson and Alissa Gamble both won easily, while Patience Newman and Cooper edged Morgan Disterhelt and Monique Randolph 8-6.
The two wins raised the Bobcats’ record to 2-0-1.
The Bobcats next match will be at home on April 13 at 4 p.m. against the Cassopolis Rangers.
