CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A four-point halftime advantage for Michigan turned into a 30-point blowout victory for the Wolverines Friday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Michigan (21-13) led Tennessee just 33-29 at the half, but outscored the Volunteers 42-16 in the final 20 minutes to advance to the third round of the West Regional on Sunday.

Zack Novak led the Wolverines with 14 points and 10 rebounds, helped spark the second half blowout with a pair of 3-pointers.

The loss was the eighth in the last 12 games for Tennessee, whose coach Bruce Pearl’s future with the school is in question.

Pearl admitted earlier this year that he lied to the NCAA during an investigation. the Tennessee athletic director said a decision on Pearl’s future would be made after the tournament.

The Wolverines were making just their second NCAA Tournament appearance since 1998. They will face the winner of the Duke-Hampton game on Sunday in Charlotte.

Tennessee freshman Tobias Harris kept the Volunteers in the game in the first half as he had 19 points and did not miss any of his combined 13 shots from the field or the free throw line.

Tobias was 0-for-5 in the second half. No other Tennessee player scored more than six points in the contest as the Volunteers end the season at 19-15.

Michigan also got 11 points each from Stu Douglass, Matt Vogrich and Tim Hardaway Jr., along with 10 points from Jordan Morgan.
