The Wolverine Conference took another step toward future expansion Wednesday afternoon at Paw Paw High School.
The league’s Board of Governors met for its regularly scheduled meeting with one of the topics of discussion being possible expansion for the 2012-13 season.
While no decision about how big the conference will be following expansion, the Board of Governors announced site visitations to Berrien Springs, Buchanan, Coloma and Edwardsburg according to a statement issued Thursday by Gary Ellis, league secretary.
Those four schools, which are all Class B, are currently members of the Lakeland Conference.
“A visitation committee, consisting of two principals and two athletic directors, will report back to the Board of Governors on their observations at a meeting to be held in April after spring break,” the release said.
The Wolverine Conference will play the 2011-12 season with nine schools — except in football. Gull Lake will become a member of the Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference (SMAC) next season in all sports except football.
