Four people were taken with injuries to area hospitals and a Niles woman was cited after a three-vehicle crash Sunday at 3:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 12 at Red Pine Road, east of Ontwa Township.

Police report an eastbound silver 2004 Nissan car driven by David Leedy of Edwardsburg turned right into Red Pine Road from U.S. 12.

A gray 2010 Honda driven by Callie Brey of Niles, without braking or attempting to avoid a collision, struck the rear of the Leedy vehicle.

A silver Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Douglas Abrams of Edwardsburg swerved to the right to avoid hitting the two vehicles immediately in front of him and was struck by the Leedy vehicle in the driver’s side.

Both Brey and Sandusky were taken to Lakeland Hospital in Niles by Edwardsburg ambulance.

David Leedy and his wife were taken to Elkhart (Ind.) General Hospital by Edwardsburg ambulance.

Douglas Abrams, Kimberly Pancoast of Niles and Austin Abrams, 12, of Elkhart, were treated at the scene and did not request to go to a hospital.

Edwardsburg Fire Department assisted at the scene with extrication and traffic.

Further investigation of the crash was being conducted by Officer Michael Hubbard of the Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police Department.
