Back-to-back 3-pointers by Edwardsburg’s Josh Kozinski helped the visiting Eddies rally to defeat Brandywine in a Lakeland Conference boys’ basketball game Thursday night, 48-42.

The Bobcats had opened up a 25-20 lead midway through the third quarter, but a pair of threes by Kozinski, the first to knot the score at 27-27, and the second to give the Eddies a 30-27 advantage heading into the final quarter.

After Michael Shelton had given the Bobcats a 31-30 lead with 7:13 remaining in the contest, Edwardsburg (11-7) outscored Brandywine 18-11 down the stretch to pull out the victory, which snapped a three-game losing streak for the Eddies.

Kozinski, who finished with a game-high 23 points, connected on a third straight 3-pointer to give the Eddies the lead for good at 33-31 with just under seven minutes to play.

In fact, Kozinski, just a sophomore, finished with nine points in the final quarter.

Edwardsburg, who was defeated by St. Joseph Wednesday night, 59-47, built up a seven-point lead (40-33) with just over six minutes to play on a basket by Matt North.

The closest Brandywine (7-11) would get the rest of the way was five points, 40-35, when Jacob Frazier tipped in an offensive rebound.

The Eddies got off to a quick start, leading 13-6 after eight minutes of play, but were shut out by the Bobcats in the second quarter as Brandywine rallied to cut the Edwardsburg advantage to 13-11.

Both teams shot the ball better in the third quarter, but the Eddies were a point better (17-16) in the scoring department and took a three-point lead into the final stanza.

Besides Kozinski’s offensive output, Edwardsburg also got 10 points from Marcus Albrecht.

Frazier led the Bobcats with 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Michael Schoenleber added eight points.
