Host Edwardsburg reached the championship match of the Division 2 regional on Wednesday, Feb. 16 before being knocked out by perennial state powerhouse Lakeshore.

The Eddies, who were the defending Division 3 regional champions, fell to the Lancers, who have now won four straight regional titles, 50-18.

Edwardsburg (33-8) advanced to the championship match with a 46-26 win over Coldwater, while Lakeshore defeated Portage Northern 43-28 in the other semifinal.

The Eddies won the first bout of the championship match as Stephen Coble pinned the Lancers’ Spencer Lemley in 3:59 at 215 pounds.

It was all Lakeshore from that point on.

The Lancers, who earned the No. 5 seed for the state finals, won the next eight weight classes — three by pins, one by technical fall and two by major decision.

By the time Edwardsburg won its next bout, Lakeshore had a 37-6 lead.

The Eddies’ Ryan Loupee finally stopped the run with a pin of Dillon Burnside in 3:04 at 145 pounds. Edwardsburg also got a pin from Austin Payne of Willie Tiefke at 160 pounds in 1:43 to conclude its scoring.

In its opening round match against the Cardinals, the Eddies got victories from Dylan Dixon (103), Michael Borden (112), Michael Kempton (130), Blake King (135), Loupee, Payne, Cole Hunsberger (189), Coble and Seth Barnett (285).
