STURGIS — Stepping up a division didn’t seem to stop the roll that the Edwardsburg wrestling team has been on in the post season.

The Eddies moved up from Division 3 after winning the last three district titles to Division 2. The results were exactly the same.

Edwardsburg (32-7) defeated host Sturgis 49-24 in the championship match on Wednesday (Feb.9) to capture its fourth consecutive district championship.

The Trojans reached the title match with a 45-25 victory over Three Rivers in the first match of the night.

The win advanced the Eddies to the Division 2 Regional Tournament, which they hosted Wednesday night. Edwardsburg faced Coldwater in the semifinals.

The championship match was never close as the Eddies opened up a 45-3 advantage and then cruised home with the title. Edwardsburg was helped in building that advantage by way of pins from Dylan Dixon (103), Lee Williamson (152), Austin Payne (171), Stephen Coble (189), Cole Hunsberger (215) and Seth Barnett (285).

DECATUR — The Cassopolis Rangers were no match for host Decatur in the Division 4 District championship match on Feb. 9.

The Raiders, a perennial Division 4 powerhouse, rolled to a 61-12 win over the Rangers.

Cassopolis got its only two victories at 103, 13- and 145 pounds.

Kahlil Brown pinned Gabi May in 5:21 at 103, while Josh McCoy edged Skylar Schoff 9-7 at 130. Bretho Danzy nipped Kyle Hemenway 12-10 at 145 pounds to account for the Rangers’ points.
