Training Institute to offer classes with a focus on building, MIOSHA

The Lake Michigan College Workforce Training Institute is offering classes beginning in February in the areas of MIOSHA and builder pre-licensure at the M-TEC facility.

• MIOSHA Construction Safety — Feb. 22-23, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., M-TEC, LMC.
Students will be guided through two, five-hour sessions on MIOSHA construction safety. The class is facilitated by a construction safety consultant from the MIOSHA consultation, education and training division. The class has been approved as a pre-licensure and continuing competency class by the Department of Labor and Economic Growth.

The cost is $165.

• Pre-Licensure Education for Residential Builders and Maintenance and Alteration Contractors — Monday through Thursday, Feb. 22 through March 23, 6 to 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. except MIOSHA class Feb. 22-23, M-TEC, LMC.

The following classes have been approved as pre-licensure classes by the Department of Labor and Economic Growth.  For more specific information on the new educational requirements mandated by law go to www.michigan.gov/builders. All nine classes will be taken sequentially and provide the needed 60 contact hours of instruction to sit for the state of Michigan’s contractor’s exam.

• Contracts, Liabilities and Risk Management

• Current Michigan Residential Code
