CASSOPOLIS — In 2009, Jason Klodzinski got a real break at his sentencing.

Facing methamphetamine-related charges that usually result in a prison sentence, Klodzinski was given  probation by Cass County Circuit Court Judge Michael Dodge.

Dodge now might be regretting that decision to show mercy on him.

Klodzinski, a 35-year-old Edwardsburg resident, was back before Dodge Friday for a delivery of methamphetamine offense.

“It’s rare that I deviate below the guidelines, but I decided to give you a break,” Dodge told Klodzinski.

This time he was not so lucky, as Dodge handed him a prison sentence of 30 months to 20 years with credit for 327 days served.

Klodzinski was still on probation when he was stopped by an Edwardsburg police officer on Dec. 4 for a traffic violation. The officer then discovered he was driving on a suspended license. During a search of the vehicle, the officer found methamphetamine.

Klodzinski admitted to possessing it with intent to deliver, according to Dodge.

Defense attorney Carol Montavon Bealor said her client is ready to change.

“He’s not super young but still young enough to change,” she said, adding that he had been attending treatment programs while in jail.

She also said he and his family would like to pursue an inpatient treatment program.

For his part, Klodzinski was remorseful.

“I’m sorry to the people of Michigan and my parents,” he said. “I want to change this.”

Also on Friday, Ryan Vylonis, 29 of Dowagiac, was sentenced to three years of probation with 180 days in jail on his third domestic violence offense. He will receive credit for 54 days served.
