Vikings fall in overtime

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Host South Bend St. Joseph’s edged Niles 54-53 in overtime Tuesday night in girls’ basketball.

The Vikings (8-6) trailed 10-8 after one quarter of play, but knotted the score at 21-21 by halftime.

Niles again trailed after three quarters of play, 30-20, but again rallied to tie the score at 46-46 at the end of regulation.

The Vikings were outscored in the extra session 8-7.

Nichole Sly scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Vikings before fouling out in overtime. Niles also got 13 points from Maureen Craig and 10 points from Alexis McIntee.

The Indians (8-8) were led by Sarah Hall who scored a game-high 23 points. Alex Kubsch added 11 points.

Niles will travel to Mattawan on Friday night to take on the Wildcats in a Big 16 West Division clash.
