Roundup: Lakeshore knocks off Niles wrestlers

STEVENSVILLE — The host Lakeshore Lancers may have struggled on Saturday at its own tournament, but the Lancers were sharp Wednesday night.
Lakeshore handed Niles a 51-11 defeat in Big 16 Conference West Division action.
Niles’s lone three victories came at 145 with Donte Stevens, 152 with Fritz Findiesen and 285 with Mike Gentry.
Stevens defeated Lakeshore’s Connor Brandt 5-0, while Findiesen defeated J.P. McDougall 13-5.
Gentry was an 11-2 winner over Kyle Carlson.

Wolverine wrestling
PLAINWELL — Forfeits and sickness may have prevented the Dowagiac wrestling team from picking up a victory Wednesday night at the Plainwell Quad.
The Chieftains were edged by the host Trojans 42-36 in a Wolverine Conference match, while Dowagiac could not keep pace with ranked Otsego in the second match, falling 72-4.
Against Plainwell, Dowagiac gave up eight forfeits. On the mat, the Chieftains pinned all of its opponents.
Winning for Dowagiac were Jacob Worthington, Ryan Smit, Ben Luth, Kyle Gilson, Carl Grant and Ken Cremeans.
Only Luth’s match went beyond the first period.
The lone win for the Chieftains against Otseo was Luth at 130-pounds where he defeated Devin Barker 15-7.
Lakeland wrestling
Cassopolis competed in the White Pigeon Duals on Wednesday and came away with a pair of victories.
The Rangers defeated Berrien Springs 53-30 and Centreville 66-10.
