PLAINWELL — Forfeits and sickness may have prevented the Dowagiac wrestling team from picking up a victory Wednesday night at the Plainwell Quad.

The Chieftains were edged by the host Trojans 42-36 in a Wolverine Conference match, while Dowagiac could not keep pace with ranked Otsego in the second match, falling 72-4.

Against Plainwell, Dowagiac gave up eight forfeits. On the mat, the Chieftains pinned all of its opponents.

Winning for Dowagiac were Jacob Worthington, Ryan Smit, Ben Luth, Kyle Gilson, Carl Grant and Ken Cremeans.

Only Luth’s match went beyond the first period.

The lone win for the Chieftains against Otseo was Luth at 130-pounds where he defeated Devin Barker 15-7.
