BUCHANAN — Buchanan dominated a tired and young Brandywine wrestling team Wednesday evening as the Bucks hosted the Bobcats in a Lakeland Conference dual wrestling match.

Buchanan closed out the league portion of its season with a 61-10 victory over the Bobcats.

Brandywine coming off a late night on the road Tuesday evening found it difficult to pick up points against the talented Bucks squad.

“It was a late night for us last night after wrestling at Bronson. We didn’t get home until after 11,” Brandywine coach Rex Pomranka said. “It was a couple of tough matches right in a row. We are young too. We have half a line-up of freshmen and sophomores and I only have two seniors in the lineup. But we are getting better and that’s what I want. Kids were getting pinned at the beginning of the year.”

Jimmie Wright (119) picked up the first points of the night for the Bobcats, a 9-0 win over River Kelly, seven matches into the night with the Bucks already in command up 30-0.

“We are heading into February and we are where we want to be,” Buchanan coach Frank Mucha commented of his team’s performance. “We go again Friday to prepare for the tournaments starting in two weeks. We just need to keep working hard in order to make good runs when the kids start district, regional and and state tournaments.”

Buchanan opened the night by earning wins by Gage Hutchison (171) with a pin over Mike Lewark, Brady Mollberg (189) picked up a forfeit win, Mack Green (215) pinned A.J. Shell at 215 and Jim DeVlaminck (285) pinned Bryan Lee at 285.

Johnny Johnson (103) defeated Paul Lochmondy with a 9-4 decision win, Taylor Glavin (112) continued the Buchanan streak with a 7-2 decision win over Jeff Cornell before Wright’s four-point win over Kelly.

The Bucks claimed the next three matches with Alex Eger (125) getting past Brandon Earles 5-0, Patrick Wheetley (130) stopped Arthur Morris 13-0 and Alex Darmos (135) pinned Nick Wright to build the Buchanan to 43-4.

In the 140-pound bout, Jeff Mucha looked to have his match pretty much in hand, leading Chanc Ravish 8-0 early in the second period. With Mucha covering Ravish, Ravish made a quick defensive move on Mucha and put him on his back. No sooner than Mucha’s back hit the mat the official called the pin for Ravish and Brandywine was given the six-point win and trailing 43-10.

“He (Ravish) wasn’t on his best. He had two tough matches last night. We will go from here. We won’t see them until individual conference and then we won’t see them again,” Pomranka said. “We just have to learn from this and get ready for district’s and regionals.”

From there it was Buchanan finishing out the night with three straight pins as Jon Lee (145) got past Nate Anders, T.J. Miller (152) made quick work of Alex Humphrey with a :29 second pin and John Kuntz (160) finished the night with a :59 second pin of Trever Jones.

On Tuesday, the Bobcats were swept by White Pigeon 51-23 and by Bronson 44-33.
