COLOMA — A quick start helped keep the Brandywine girls’ basketball team undefeated in Lakeland Conference play Friday night.

The Bobcats (11-1, 7-0 Lakeland) outscored the host Comets 30-8 in the first half on their way to a 52-22 victory.

“I am proud of the way the girls took care of business,” Brandywine coach Josh Hood said. “When you go on the road and play Coloma, which is a good team and it’s a tough place to play, you have to be focused. For the past two games we have held our opponents under double digits in the first half and that’s because of the pride these girls take in playing defense.”

Brandywine grabbed a 14-2 first quarter lead, which it stretched to 30-8 by halftime.

The Bobcats outscored the Comets (7-4, 3-4 Lakeland) 22-14 in the second half to complete the rout.

Carlie Newman had 18 points to lead Brandywine and all scorers, while Lauren Leonard added 10.

Julie Timm had nine points to pace Coloma.
