State Rep. Matt Lori recently took the oath of office for his second term serving in the House.

“I appreciate the support and confidence local residents have shown in me and my work for our state,” said Lori, R-Constantine. “I will continue to work to protect the people here in southwest Michigan and promise to take necessary steps to improve Michigan’s economic climate.”

Lori will serve the 2011-2012 term on the following committees: chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Community Health, vice chair of the General Government Appropriations Subcommittee and a member of the Corrections Appropriations Subcommittee.

“I am honored to serve as chair of the Subcommittee on Community Health,” Lori said. “We have a huge responsibility before us to look at the budget and find effective and efficient community health programs that will move us forward as a state.

“We must focus on bringing jobs back to our state by accommodating businesses and lowering tax burdens that get in the way of job creation,” Lori said. “I will always be open to ideas from the people here at home.”

Prior to Lori’s first term, he served in law enforcement for nearly 30 years, serving as St. Joseph County sheriff for 20 years. Lori has a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Western Michigan University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

His 59th House District includes Cass County, except for the Dowagiac area, and all of St. Joseph County.
