Constantine’s grapplers went unbeaten Saturday at the Brandywine Team Duals meet with the closest match being a 40-33 victory over Milan.

Milan, Mendon and Brandywine each finished 3-2 with Milan beating the host Bobcats 53-24 and Brandywine toppling Mendon 45-34. The Hornets upset Milan by a 36-32 outcome.

“We have a very young team compared to last year and are still learning,” commented Constantine coach Steve Wilson. “Both my seniors at 112 and 130 are hard core kids, who are great leaders and have been with me through the tough times and are carrying our program.”

Constantine (31-4) opened with the match against Milan before downing Brandywine (52-24), Mendon (51-25), Eau Claire (60-19) and Montague (70-9) in succession to take home the team trophy.

A quartet of starting matmen missed meet for the Bobcats with illness as the cold and snowy weather provided a tough week for Brandywine (21-10) coach Rex Pomranka.

“Milan and Constantine are both good, so we needed to be at full strength to keep up with them,” stated Pomranka. “It was a tough week as last Saturday was snowed out and had two tough conference matches on Wednesday against Coloma and Edwardsburg.”

Brandywine began by beating the Beavers of Eau Claire 48-24 and after losing to Constantine it defeated Montague 48-32 before stinging Mendon and concluding with the loss to Milan.

“Morris (Arthur) got his 100th win which was really nice for him and Chanc Ravish remained undefeated even though his 140 was a tough weight class today,” Pomranka said. “We only have a few seniors and have 15 sophomores and freshmen at the junior varsity level, so the future looks good.”

“I love this tournament and enjoy coming here as we face good competition and the sloppy joes are excellent,” concluded Constantine’s Wilson.
