The six-game losing streak of the Brandywine boys’ basketball team came to an end Monday night as the Bobcats roared past visiting River Valley 63-24.

Brandywine, despite going 3-of-10 shooting to open the game, rolled off the first 22 points before the Mustangs put a dent in the scoreboard with a pair of free throws early in the second quarter.

Senior center Jacob Frazier scored eight of his 12 points in the opening eight minutes to help get the Bobcats off to a quick start.

Brandywine (4-6) posted a shutout in the first quarter as it took a 20-0 lead on River Valley.

After a pair of Brad Millin free throws extended the Bobcats’ advantage to 22-0, Phillip Duneck averted the shutout for the Mustangs with a pair of free throws just 54 seconds into the second quarter.

The Mustangs would go on to score 10 more points in the quarter and would finish the first half with 12 of their 24 total points.

Brandywine cooled off a bit offensively, mainly because of the constant shuffling in and out of players, often five Bobcats at a time.

“The kids never got into any kind of rhythm so we could never really see what we were working on because we kept putting in five and taking five out,” Brandywine coach Nathan Knapp said. “It’s getting better. The kids are starting to make more bounce passes, but we still want to make that over-the-top pass. But we are making strides.”

Neither team did much offensively in the third quarter as they combined for just 17 points.

Brandywine got the better of it and took a 42-19 lead into the final quarter.

The Bobcats exploded for 21 points in the final frame, led by Millin’s six points. Brandywine also got a pair of buckets off the bench from Brian Exner.

Millin finished the night with a game-high 14 points for the Bobcats. Frazier chipped in with 12 in limited playing action, while Pierce Gleason added eight and Austin Searles seven.

Jonney Aurenz led River Valley with nine points.

Brandywine also won the JV contest as the Bobcats posted a 51-21 victory. Alex Ulrickson led Brandywine with 12 points, while Alex Brooks finished with 11 and Brian Kline 10.
