Events scheduled to mark MLK day

The Cassopolis Community-Wide Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration, sponsored by the Minority Coalition of Cass County, will take place Monday with the following events:

• 8:30 a.m. — Prayer breakfast at the Cassopolis United Methodist Church: Area youth will have an essay contest on famous blacks. A youth choir will perform.

• 11 a.m. — Freedom March from United Methodist Church to the Historical Courthouse in downtown Cassopolis.

• 12:30 p.m. — Community food pantry distribution at the Church of Cassopolis.

• 7 p.m. — Gospel program at the United Presbyterian Church with area church choirs performing.

All events are free with donations accepted at the prayer breakfast. Community leaders have been invited to the events. According to organizers, the events will emphasize the importance of community service.
