Robert D. McDermott, 58, of Terminal Road in Niles, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011 at his home following an illness.

Mr. McDermott was born July 14, 1952 in Chicago to Frank and Cora (Mayberry) McDermott. Robert was raised in Harrisburg, Ill. and moved from Chicago to Niles in 1978. He retired in 2009 after 30 years of service at A.M. General in South Bend.
He enjoyed fishing at area lakes. He was a member of area league bowling. He also enjoyed watching television shows.
On Sept. 29, 1979 in Pokagon United Methodist Church in Niles, he married the former Clara Jeane Cole, who survives.
Surviving family includes their children, Lisa (Pastor Jeff) Raatz of Richmond, Ind. and Joshua (Gina) McDermott of Noblesville, Ind.; grandchildren, Samantha, Robyn, Cole, Javan and Tristan; sisters and brothers, Patricia Croft of Joliet, Ill., Eddy McDemott, Deanna Trentz and Richard McDermott, all of Harrisburg, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be gathering privately for services.
There will be no visitation.
Arrangements were made by Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
