Chieftains snap 3-game skid

THREE RIVERS — A huge first quarter helped Dowagiac snap a three-game losing streak in boys’ basketball Friday night.

The Chieftains exploded for 25 first quarter points en route to a 67-28 victory over host Three Rivers in Wolverine Conference action.

Dowagiac (2-3, 2-2 Wolverine) led 51-23 at halftime and never looked back, outscoring the Wildcats 16-5 in the second half.

Darius Wilson led a balanced Dowagiac attack with 14 points, while Dontel Highsmith and Tremail Butcher both added 13 points. The Chieftains also got 10 points from Chris Craft.

Brandon Wilson scored 12 points for Three Rivers (1-4, 1-3 Wolverine) and was the only Wildcat to reach double figures.

The Chieftains will travel to Otsego Tuesday night for another Wolverine Conference contest. Action is slated to begin at 7:15 p.m.

The Dowagiac freshmen and JV will also be at Otsego for games starting at 4:15 and 5:45 p.m.

THREE RIVERS — The host Wildcats rolled up a 38-9 halftime lead on Dowagiac and cruised to a 58-22 Wolverine Conference girls’ basketball victory Friday night.

Three Rivers led 19-8 after one period of play and outscored the Chieftains 17-1 in the second quarter to totally dominate the contest. Dowagiac was held scoreless in the third quarter as the lead grew to 51-9.

Morgan Stuut led the Wildcats with 13 points, while Perri Wiederman added 12.

Katie Lorenz scored 12 points to pace Dowagiac, which also got five points from Kelsie Primley.

Dowagiac will play host to Otsego on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. The Chieftain JV squad will also face Otsego beginning at 6 p.m.
