Vikings fall to Lancers

STEVENSVILLE — The Niles girls’ basketball team couldn’t hold a five-point lead with about two minutes to play Friday night and ended up falling to rival Lakeshore 42-38 in a Big 16 West Division contest.

A 22-point fourth quarter comeback allowed the Lancers to upset the Vikings.

Niles led 7-4 after one period of play and 20-15 at intermission. The Vikings extended their lead to 27-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

Lakeshore exploded for 22 points, while holding the Vikings to 11.

Courtney Peter led the Lancers with 14 points and was the only Lakeshore player in double digits. Cam Tyler added nine.

Nichole Sly finished with a game-high 17 points to lead Niles, which also got 16 points from Alexis McIntee and five points from Savannah Wolnik.

They were the only three Vikings to score in the contest.
