Robert E. Jones, 72, of Shillelagh Lane, Niles, died at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, following a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 19, 1938 in Niles to Evan H. and Bobbette L. (Moore) Jones and lived in Niles all his life, graduating from Niles High School.

He was employed by Clark Equipment since 1962 as a plumber/pipefitter. After Clark’s moved, Bob established Jones Building Services and continued to maintain the same buildings on contract for AEP.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Niles. He also formerly held memberships at the Elks, the Moose and the NRA. He was a great outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, and for many years kept a place up north at Bitely, Mich.

Bob served as a Niles Township (now Niles Charter Township) trustee for 26 years.

On April 14, 1962 he married the former Robin Barton who preceded him in death June 20, 1992. He was also preceded him in death by a brother, Evan L. Jones and by their father, Evan H. Jones.

On Feb. 4, 1995 in Niles, he married the former Carol Weaver, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Cindy Mazzola of Houston, Texas, Sheila (Brian) Hunt of Edwardsburg, Tina (Jeff) VanBelle of Edwardsburg and Julie (Jason) Morris of Bryan, Ohio; Carol’s children, Kim (Dale) Peebles of Niles, Luann (Tim) Ramsay of Niles and Arthur (Wendy) Schwarz of Cape Coral, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his mother, Bobbette L. Jones of Niles.

Bob’s remains will be cremated, and no public events will be offered.
