A 13-0 run that spanned the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second led to a 68-40 Buchanan victory over host Brandywine Thursday night.

Trailing 10-9, Buchanan used four straight Bobcat turnovers to kick start the run that ended with the Bucks leading 22-10 with 5:30 left in the first half.

Brandywine opened the game with a Jacob Frazier dunk and hounded the undefeated Bucks throughout the opening eight minutes of play.

Buchanan grabbed a 6-3 advantage on a basket by Dylan Arnold before the Bobcats were able to square the game at 7-7 on back-to-back buckets by Michael Toxopeus.

A basket by Jalen Brown off it his miss allowed the Bucks to reclaim the lead momentarily until Austin Searles hit a 3-pointer to give the Bobcats a 10-9 advantage with 30.1 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.

Brandywine looked as if they were going to take that lead into the second period or perhaps extend it, but a steal and score by the Bucks’ Savon Brown with 2.4 ticks showing on the clock turned the game around.

It was all Buchanan from there as the Bobcats turned the ball over three straight times to start the second quarter which turned a one-point contest into an 18-10 advantage for the Bucks.

Jake Frazier, who sat out part of both the first and second quarter after picking up two quick fouls, stopped the bleeding with 4:47 to play with a basket that made it a 22-12 game.

Buchanan would outscore Brandywine 16-5 over the final five minutes of the first half to take a 38-17 lead into halftime.

The Bobcats showed some life coming out of the locker room to start the second half.

Dustin Sater started a 6-1 run for Brandywine, which ended with another Sater basket that cut the lead down to 39-25. Five minutes later, another Frazier dunk made it 43-31 with 1:06 remaining in the third quarter.

The Bucks would respond by scoring the final five points of the period to take a 48-31 advantage to the final quarter and seal the victory.

The Bobcats would only manage nine points against the stingy Buchanan defense in the fourth quarter, while the Bucks exploded for 20 points.

Jalen Brown led Buchanan with 16 points, while Justin Henderson added 13. Andrew Hearington and Savon Brown each netted nine.

Frazier paced the Bobcats with 12 points and was the only Brandywine player to reach double digits.

Toxopeus chipped in with eight points and Sater six.

Brandywine won the freshmen contest 36-31. Trent Moskwinski and Alex Nichols both scored nine points.

The Bobcats also won the JV contest as they defeated the Bucks 39-33. Alex Ulrickson scored 15 points and Alex Brooks 13.
