Niles splits with ’Cats, Tigers

BUCHANAN — The Niles wrestling team defeated Wolverine power Three Rivers 42-33 at the Buchanan Quad on Wednesday night.

Host Buchanan was defeated by Wolverine kingpin Allegan 46-21.

Niles and Buchanan were scheduled to switch opponents for the second round, which was not complete at deadline. Check for more on those matches.

In the Niles’ victory, the Vikings got wins from Casey and Colin Burandt, Robbie Legus, Donte Stevens and Fritz Findesien in consecutive bouts from 130- to 152-pounds.

Following a Wildcat victory at 160, Niles got wins from Tyler Mead and Mike Gentry to put the Vikings up 42-20 with three bouts remaining.

Three Rivers won all three of those bouts to make the final a bit closer.

In the second round, Niles fell to Allegan 45-15, while Buchanan defeated 47-28

The Bucks fell behind the Tigers 16-3 and were never able to catch up.

Picking up victories for Buchanan were Taylor Glavin (112), Jeff Mucha (135), T.J. Miller (152), Gage Hutchison (171) and Mack Green (215).

Miller and Green both pinned their opponents.
