CONSTANTINE — The Dowagiac wrestling team was defeated by visiting Constantine Wednesday night 54-15.

Picking up wins for the Chieftains were Rey Vega (103) with a 3-1 decision over Zach Creager, Ryan Smith (125) with a 6-0 win over Tyler Spencer, Carl Grant (215) with a 6-2 win over Aaron Turner and Stevie Baylock (285) with a pin of T.J. Hufnagel in 2:17.

“Carl Grant did a nice job,” first-year Dowagiac coach Matt Alward said. “He lost to Mr. Turner 10-4 a couple of weekends ago at a tournament and came back to defeat him. I was really impressed with his improvement over the last couple of weeks. We’re young and we make young mistakes. I had two freshmen winning in the third period who made mistakes and got caught.”
