Teams get back to work

The holidays are over and it’s time to get back to work for our area sports teams.

The Niles girls’ basketball team, which went 1-1 over the holidays at the Motor City Roundball Classic, returns to the hardwood tonight as it travels to Dowagiac for a non-conference contest set to begin at 7:15 p.m.

The Vikings boys’ team will travel to South Bend Clay for a 7:30 p.m. contest, while the Brandywine boys’ and girls’ teams will both be in action.

The Bobcat boys’ team will host Berrien Springs in a Lakeland Conference tilt at 7:45 p.m., while the girls will travel to Berrien Springs to face the Shamrocks at 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday night, the Niles wrestling team, which was 3-2 at the Big 16 Team Duals last Thursday, will make the short drive over to Buchanan to face Allegan and Three Rivers at a quad meet beginning at 6 p.m.

The Brandywine wrestling team will play host to Bridgman, River Valley and Mendon on Wednesday at 6.

Another Lakeland Conference clash will take place at Brandywine High School on Thursday when the Bobcat boys’ team hosts rival Buchanan at 7:45 p.m.

The Brandywine girls’ team will face Buchanan on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Niles girls’ and boys’ basketball teams head to Stevensville on Friday night for a pair of key Big 16 Conference West Division games.

The girls’ team will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow at 7:15.

On Saturday, Brandywine will host its team wrestling tournament beginning at 9 a.m., while the Vikings will head to St. Joseph for the annual Berrien County Meet.
