Activities get January ’11 off to a brisk beginning

CASSOPOLIS — The following activities are scheduled the Cass County Council on Aging in January:

Jan 1-3: Closed for New Year’s holiday.

Jan. 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 19, 21, 24, 26, 28 and 31, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: Fitness in Dowagiac. Vim and Vigor Aerobics and S.E.A.T. (Sit, Exercise, and Tone) classes get Dowagiac moving at First United Methodist Church, 306 N. Lowe St.. S.E.A.T meets from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. and is a chair-based fitness. Vim and Vigor combines basic aerobics with some dance and fun from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Cost per class is $25 per month or $5 for walk-ins.

Jan. 5, 10, 12, 19, 24, 26, and 31, Mondays and Wednesdays: Zumba® class. Zumba® combines fast and slow rhythms and resistance training to burn fat and tone. $5 per class or $20 per month. Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Jan. 5, 12, 19 and 26, Wednesdays: Cribbage Club. Open to Cribbage players of all skill levels, play begins at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Jan. 6, Thursday: medication drop-off. Bring in unused, expired or unwanted medications for proper disposal from 10 a.m. to noon. Medications must be in their original, labeled containers and signed in when dropped off.

Jan. 6, 13, 20 and 27, Thursdays: Dance Club. Dance to a variety of musical styles and enjoy the fellowship of friends. 9 a.m.

Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28, Fridays: knitting and crocheting. Like to knit or crochet? Join this group, regardless of your skill level to share techniques, stories and fun while knitting items to donate to charity. 10 a.m. to noon.

Jan. 8, 15, 22, and 29, Saturdays: yoga. Stretch and strengthen with registered instructor Margaret Filchak from 9 to 10:15 a.m. $8 per class.

Jan. 10, Monday: brain aerobics. “Fitness for your Mind” exercises the brain and stimulates neurons. This is a free class, but you must register due to space limitations. This class is open to everyone. 10 a.m. to noon.

Jan. 10, Monday: Movies for Grown-ups. This series features a new movie each month from the AARP’s “Best movies for Grown-ups” list. Free popcorn. Movie starts at 1 p.m.

Jan. 14, Friday: Sunny Volunteer Breakfast. The Council on Aging staff shows appreciation for volunteers.
