Janet Gail Racht, 61, of Buchanan, died Dec. 25, 2010 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. after a long-time illness.

Janet was born July 17, 1949 in Sturgis, Mich. to Arthur L. Funk and Elizabeth (Wert) Funk of Buchanan.

Janet retired in 2008 after working 20 years as a director in charge of executive search and later of women into leadership for Crowe Horwath in South Bend. She also taught in the Buchanan Community Schools prior to working for Crowe Horwath. She served on the Committee for Friends of the Trail, was the acting lay leader at her church, sat on the YWCA board of South Bend and served on the Buchanan Community School Board for 12 years.

On Nov. 30, 1991 in Niles she married Steve Racht, who survives. She is also survived by her mother, Elizabeth Funk; a daughter, Kelly Carlin of Buchanan; a son, Scott (Stacey) Carlin of Buchanan; a sister, Cindy (Jack) Salem of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; stepchildren, Erin (Mitt) Drew of Niles, Steve Racht Jr. of Niles and Joey (Heather) Racht of Niles; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Buchanan. Pastor Rob McPherson will officiate.  Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Swem Chapel, Buchanan.
