To the editor:

The Dec. 21 American Red Cross blood drive sponsored by Dowagiac Knights of Columbus and Peninsular 10 Masonic Lodge was held at Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church.

We greatly appreciate the donors’  efforts during such a busy time of the year and the effort to brave the weather conditions to insure the gift of life was available to others.

We were able to collect 46 pints of blood.

We wish to extend a world of gratitude to the following businesses:  Family Fare Supermarket for their contribution of finger foods and beverages for the donors; Pizza Hut, Little Caesars and Saylor’s for providing pizzas for donors, Red Cross workers and volunteer workers.

We would also like to thank local businesses for placing posters in prominent places.

We would also like to thank the Dowagiac Daily News for informational coverage of the event.

During the holiday season with so many people traveling, it is essential blood supplies are sufficient.

It is also particularly appropriate to take a little extra time for reflection to appreciate the many blessings we have received.

Of course, a successful blood drive cannot exist without our frequent donors.

Also very important are the volunteers assisting the American Red Cross who took from their busy schedules to help out. What a great gift of life.

Thanks again for all your support.
