The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department is requesting the public’s help in identifying and locating an armed robbery suspect.

At approximately 7 p.m. Thursday, the suspect entered the Payless Shoesource, located at 2706 South 11th St. in Niles Township, and displayed a handgun before taking the money from the register.

The suspect was described as a white male, possibly 5 feet 8 inches tall, average to stocky build, possibly in his early to mid-20s and wearing a mask, a blue sweatshirt, worn blue jeans and tan boots.

He was last seen running from the scene.

One of Berrien County Sheriff’s Department’s K9s and a handler tracked the suspect to the intersection of Third Street and Bertrand Road, which may indicate that he had a vehicle staged in that area for his escape.

No one was injured.

The amount of money taken will not be release.

The Michigan State Police responded to assist.

If anyone has any information regarding this crime, please contact the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Detective Bureau at (269) 983-7141 ext. 7224.
