Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office was contacted by Nate Wines of Dowagiac in regards to one of their salesmen possibly embezzling money.

A month-long investigation led investigators to uncover evidence that Dan Collins, 45, of Dowagiac, had embezzled money from the sale of wine from the company.

The alleged activity took place from mid-2006 to November 2010. The exact amount of money Collins received from this crime is still being investigated, the sheriff’s office said Monday.

On Dec. 17, Collins was arrested on the charge of embezzlement over $100,000 and arraigned in Cass County Fourth District Court.

He is currently released on a $50,000 bond set at that hearing.
