Wesley O. Tonkin, 83, was born February 1, 1927 at 23 Parkway in Niles to Sidney and Irene (Kelly) Tonkin. He passed away at home at 5:20 p.m. Dec. 14, 2010, having lived all his life in Niles. He married Beverly Ann Colvin on December 27, 1952 who survives.

He is also survived by a brother, Richard of Fruitport, Mich., and sister, Marilyn of Laguna Woods, Calif., sons Kevin (Sherri) and Brian (Linda) both of Niles, and David of Three Rivers, and a daughter, Lisa (Bobby) Batson, seven grandchildren and two great-grand children.

Mr. Tonkin served his country during WWII as a U.S. Army radioman for the 88th Division, 350th H.Q. in Italy after graduating from Niles High in 1945, was a member of the American Legion Post #26 and lifetime member of the St. Joseph Valley Lodge #4 Masons. He was a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, Niles, MI.

He worked as a machinist for over 33 years at National Standard Company in Niles and Electro Voice in Buchanan for 9 years, retiring from both.

He was an avid dancer who dined and danced in his earlier years with his wife. He loved to hunt, fish, play cards and enjoyed fellowship and coffee with his retiree friends at local establishments.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
